I am a curvy and proud, so it seemed only natural to start with South America, where they embrace a good round bum and solid thighs.
Although their shapewear is not the prettiest I have seen, it is quite interesting. The large majority of these items are a nude colour which I like, it makes them look very functional.
South American women don’t seem afraid to cover their entire bodies in restrictive, elasticated shapewear, in fact some pieces even go as far as covering the arms. Brazil especially is very much into plastic surgery, which translates into their underwear. Many sites sell full body post operative suits such as this one:
Although I doubt the effectiveness of the sleeves on the following item, it is interesting that they want to ‘shape’ every part of their bodies:
Even though they seem to enjoy the full body coverage, a lot of the focus is on creating an hourglass figure. This means that the online shops sell many types of waist cinchers, in different styles; some with thong backs, small shoulder straps, open bottom etc.
My favourite thing about South American shapewear is the BUMS! If they are not padding their backsides out or lifting them up, they are squeezing them through bits of material to create big round shaped cheeks!
This one is padded:
And these ones…well I had to post two because I love them so much! I want one! (This is NOT what I am referring to when I mention ‘open bottom girdles’ by the way…)
The last piece that I love is this bra, it reminds of some of the old structured girdles, with regards to the structure and fastening devices.
The fasteners at the front and the reinforced back are great and I love that they are long line, for extra support.
The message that I’m getting from South American shapewear is that those women want the figure they want and if it involves wearing a full body suit with cut out bum cheeks, then that is what they will wear! This shapewear probably works well to help out with problem areas but the one thing that is missing for me is the suspender straps… And that just will not do!
