Ladies, if you live in Australia, you will know that the heat and humidity is bordering on unbearable right now. One of the things that really bothers me about the heat in this country is that my thighs are more likely to chafe and chafing can be extremely uncomfortable and painful. There are several things that can be done to prevent this from happening when wearing stockings:
- Wearing extra long stockings (opera length stockings for us tall ladies) that come right up to the top of the inside of the thigh means that your skin will be protected by the nylon
- There are some anti-chafing gels that can be applied to the inside of the thighs which prevent the skin from rubbing against each other in a painful way (i.e., they should just glide)
- Wear panty girdles
- Anti-chafing knickers
Laura contacted me from The Big Tights Company and, knowing how hot it gets in Australia, suggested that I try out her anti-chafing long leg knickers. So I waited for a really hot day in order to properly road test them and here is what I think of them!
Upon first inspection, I thought that although they were very soft, these knickers didn’t seem like a luxurious item, as most of my other underwear is. I thought that they might not go very well with my girdles and may look strange. Then I thought about normal people (who don’t show the world their underwear on a daily basis) and realised that people who suffer from ‘chub rub’ would probably rather wear lovely underwear and stockings than not, so wearing these knickers is basically a bit of a life saver, or thigh saver. These knickers are obviously not designed for boudoir shoots, they are designed for daily wear, so as long as you’re not planning on seductively flashing your partner, they are perfect. With that in mind, I think that some lace bottoms would make them look pretty, although the ribbed leg cuff very helpfully prevents them from riding up.
It is very important to point out that these are NOT support knickers. They are very stretchy and will not pull you in or support your body in any way, they are designed to prevent chafing only.
So how did they fare on this hot and humid day? I deliberately chose to wear my extra firm Rago open bottom girdle because this item really forces my thighs together. I (very easily) slid the girdle over the knickers and fastened the clasps and zip up, ready for a full day at work. A typical work day will involve a walk to the bus stop and then once in the city, a short walk to my office, then a walk at lunch and then the same journey home in the evening. I move around a lot in the office as I need to speak to everybody so I was by no means just sat at my desk all day, these knickers were very well road tested!
By the time I got home from work, I didn’t want to take them off, they are so lightweight and silky soft that its a veritable pleasure feeling my silky thighs rubbing together (no I’m not joking). My thighs were chafe-free despite the combination of walking and intense heat, so I am one very happy lady!
Would I recommend these? Yes absolutely, even though they are not very pretty, they are really good quality, so soft and do what they say on the tin. Please note that if you don’t want to wear stockings, you can obviously wear them on their own under a dress or skirt.
Sizing – When you land on the front page of their website, you might think that The Big Tights company doesn’t have your size because they seem quite big, however, do not be fooled! I am wearing a size UK 12-16 (you can find my measurements here) and these go up to a UK 36-40.
Available colours – These knickers are available in black, natural and white.
