These days, if you want to buy a retro style bra, you can either get lucky and find a genuine vintage piece or you would need to go to a vintage lingerie reproduction brand. The trouble with reproduction brands (as much as I adore them) is that their cup sizes don’t generally go past a D or DD. If you have a larger bust and are into vintage styles, although the idea of replicating the legendary sweater girl look probably appeals, having two traffic cone shaped breasts stuck to your chest probably does not. The best compromise would be to find a retro style bra that recreates a slight subtle point without poking your friends’ eyes out.
The Doreen bra made by Triumph is one of those bras, along with the Playtex ‘cross your heart’ that has remained in production since it was first designed and manufactured decades ago. The reason for it’s continued success is because it is a very well constructed, it’s pretty and it’s a practical brassiere; I swear by three piece soft cup bras for exactly these reasons. I own one of the modern-made Triumph bras, as well as a Target reproduction, and I wear them on a regular basis. I would really recommend trying on a bra in the style with an open mind. I am aware that a lot of women would refer to this style as a ‘granny bra’ but trust me, it is a true vintage style and as an added bonus, can be purchased for relatively little money.
If you would like to own your very own Doreen or Doreen style bra, I have rounded up a few styles and brands that resemble the Doreen. There are many more on the market but these are my favourites.
