Jasmine reviews Orchard Corset’s mesh waspie!

Well Hello lovelies, It is Jasmine from Quirky and Curvy again.

I am a very big corset fan. I do not ‘need’ to waist train to achieve an hourglass shape, I am lucky it comes naturally for me. But I do like to wear corsets often as I love the feel and how they define and accent my shape even more.

I usually wear longline styles as they work better on my hips and create less bulges on me.

When I saw the new Steel Boned Underbust Waspie Corset in Mesh (CS-201) from Orchard Corset, I was too tempted to not try it.

I live in Australia, and pretty much from late spring to early fall it can get uncomfortably hot and sweaty in a corset. Summer can be a nightmare. So the prospect of a corset in Mesh sounded too good to be true. It was so well priced at $76 USD ($85 with shipping to Australia) I just had to try it.

It arrived as a little Corset Burrito, which never fails to make me giggle.

I ordered in my usual corset size at the moment which is a 32.

My Measurements for those playing at home are:

Bust: 50 inches or 127cm

Waist: 37 inches or 94 cm

Hips: 53 inches or 134cm

If you are unsure of corset sizing I would recommend looking at Orchard Corsets, Corset 101 Tutorials Page Or ANY of the videos or information by the amazing Lucy’s Corsetry

The corset itself is a 6-panel corset (12 total) with 16 spiral and flat steel bones. Waist tape reinforcement for additional strength. The boning channels and modesty panel are 100% premium cotton. There is only a single layer of mesh, which while feeling quite durable does have a little more give than I am used to. If I was planning to try and tightlace in this often I would maybe even order down a size next time.

I would have to say I am very happy with the fit. It is very comfortable.

I was a little unsure how the fit would go on me as I do not usually wear waspies. I am very happy to say it fits very nicely and is a lot firmer than I would be. On the orchard corset scale this corset comes in as a Level 2/3 Silhouette (Enhanced-Extreme Curves) So good for people who have a 7 to 10+ inch difference between hips and waist. This is usually the style I go for as I have a 16 inch difference.

Unlaced I am 38 to 37 inches usually laced as I was in the pictures and not very tight I was down to a 35 to 34 inches roughly.

Being Mesh I was half expecting it to not feel very supportive, to not have the restriction I am used to. I am happy to say this was not the case. Yes it was a little softer than my longline but that is expected due to the fact that it is a waspie and only has one layer of fabric. It did still however leave me feeling supported and nice and constricted. If anything it felt almost like a ‘seasoned’ corset right away

My only dislike is I have quite a curved back so found the two flat steel bones occasionally pushed into the top of my bubble butt after a while. I can curve them out slightly but it was not enough to make me not love the corset at all.

There is also the little upper back bulge / muffin top that you get with corsets that do not have a very high back but that is just a pet hate. This corset is no different that others in that regard.

The Mesh is wonderfully cool, so it will be great for those hotter days. Being a mesh the surface is not as smooth so if I was wearing this under something thin or quite firm fitting I would wear a slip with it as well to smooth the texture.

The Dimensions of the corset are 24 cm at the busk, 19cm at the side and it has a 14 cm modesty panel.

The Lacing is a wonderfully good quality flat cord and is lovely and long. Maybe even a little too long.

So over all I am very happy with the Mesh waspie from Orchard Corsets. It is great for those days when I just want to wear a corset all day at home.

Screen Shot 2014-09-28 at 7.41.50 pmI think going out I would still be inclined to wear my favourite underbust longline – The Morticia Corset From What Katie Did

But I have to say this little baby is going to get a lot of daily wear. This is how it looks under my sweater while gaming at my desk at home.

All in all I loved the Mesh waspie and am looking forward to being able to lace up and not pass out from heat exhaustion during summer.
